Add a Little Spice to your Summer Hydration
I'm sitting here writing to you and it is absolutely stunning outside! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the garden has come to life. Summer is in full swing and it's heating up! People are spending more time outside enjoying the summer sun and fun! Hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, getting back to nature and enjoying the freedom of adventure! Doing these things require a ton of energy, that's why it's SO important to make sure you stay hydrated. Staying hydrated all year round is important, but bumping up that hydration during the summer months to help the body keep up with extra activity is key!
HOW MUCH WATER SHOULD YOU DRINK?
The Institute of Medicine recommends women drink at least 74 oz. of fluids a day. That's a little over nine cups. For men, this bumps up to 13 cups. When hydrating, there are other factors to consider such as air temperature, weight, exercise and diet. These factors will influence how much you should drink.
THE HEALTH BENEFITS TO STAYING HYDRATED ARE ENDLESS
It's clear that staying hydrated is vital for our bodies to function. We're always being told to drink plenty of water.
Here are a few benefits of keeping yourself hydrated.
Drinking enough fluid helps you remain focused, clear-headed and creative.
Hydration is involved in the production of hormones and neurotransmitters.
Helps your complexion by flushing toxins and other free-radicals out of the body. This means our skin stays supple and combats against pre-mature wrinkling.
ENERGY! Staying hydrated helps energize your body, by maintaining optimum blood pressure. This helps your heart pump oxygen around the body. Fueling it with vital oxygen.
Staying properly hydrated helps with metabolism and weight loss.
Plenty of water provides adequate nutrients to your muscles and helps joints stay lubricated.
Your digestive system depends on it!
